Advance Train Visit
Advance Train Visit form
The Advance Train Visit form enables you to advance the selected train visit through the various visit phases (on page 1). The current phase determines the activities that you can perform for a train visit. For example, you can load/discharge containers from a train only if the current visit phase is Arrived or Working.
Use the Advance Train Visit form to change the visit phase in the forward or the backward direction. For example, you can advance a train visit from the Working phase to the Complete phase or to the Arrived phase.
If railcars are shared between inbound and outbound train visits, the outbound train visit must be departed before the inbound train visit.
To see how advancing a train visit fits into the rail process flow, see the Full Rail Operations (on page 1) and Lite Rail Operations (on page 1) process flows.
To advance the selected train visit to a specific visit phase:
From the Visit Phase drop-down list, select the appropriate visit phase.
If the drop-down list does not display the phase that you want to advance the train visit to, it indicates that you are skipping more than the recommended number of phases and must first select an intermediate visit phase. For example, you cannot advance from the Inbound visit phase to the Departed visit phase unless you select the Arrived and Complete phases first.
If there is already a Next Facility defined for the train visit (viewable from the Train Visits view under the Next Facility column), you will be required to select/enter a value for Next Facility Visit. Otherwise, this field will be greyed out.
Specify the required date and time values for the start or end of the selected visit phase. For more information, see Entering date and Entering time.
Click Save.
Notes
The Time Out value for the train visit's On-board containers is the same as the Actual Time of Departure (ATD) for the train visit.
If you specify a future date and time in the Actual Time of Departure field, N4 displays a dialog asking for confirmation to proceed. When you confirm, N4 accepts the future date and time. When you specify the Actual Time of Departure as a future date, there are two validations: one for date and one for time. This is because through ATD (Actual Time of Depart) is a single field in the database, N4 displays it in the UI as two separate fields (Date/Time).
Next Facility Visit
If the train visit for the next facility does not exist and you have the ADD_TRAIN_VISIT_ON_THE_FLY privilege, you can enter the train visit for the next facility and N4 will create it.
The Next Facility Visit drop-down list is only available when:
The Visit Phase is Departed,
The departing train is an Outbound train visit
The Next Facility is defined for the train visit in the Train Visits view. (This is defined manually by editing the Train Visit.)
The list of values for the Next Facility Visit drop-down contains train visits that:
Are either Inbound or Through train visits,
Are for the same facility as the departing train's next facility,
Share the same railroad and service as the departing train, and
Are in either Created or Inbound phases.
N4 does not validate the timing of train visits. Because the next facility train visit's ETA could be in the past or distant future, it is good to know ahead of time which train visit to select.
Event(s) Recorded
When you advance a train visit, N4 records the PHASE_RV event in the event history of the train visit. You can use the event to send a notice request to your customers, such as railroad operators.
To view the event details, use the History, Events tab (on page 1) in the Train Inspector (on page 1) for the train visit.
Departed Phase
When you advance an outbound or through train visit to the Departed phase:
For all railcar visits associated with the selected train visit, N4:
Sets the Is Active field to False
Clears the Position Slot field
This indicates that the railcars are no longer on the tracks in the facility.
For all the units On Board (on page 1) the selected train visit, N4 sets the visit state to Departed
Canceled Phase
If you select Canceled from the Visit Phase drop-down list, N4 displays the Cancel Train Visit confirmation form and sets the Visit Phase as Canceled only if you click Yes. If you click No, N4 reverts the current visit phase.
You can advance a train visit to Canceled only when it is in the Created visit phase.
When you advance a train visit from the Created to the Canceled phase, the associated railcar visits are also updated to the Inactive status if:
The train visit is Inbound and the railcar visit is not associated with another specific Outbound train visit.
The train visit is Outbound and the railcar visit is not associated with another specific Inbound train visit.
Closed Phase
When you advance the outbound or through train visit to the Closed phase, all units on board the train and all railcar visits associated with the train visit are no longer visible in the XPS client. From this phase you cannot recall the train. If it's necessary to edit the train visit details, you can edit through Edit Train Visit.
Possible transitions forward and backwards
The transitions enabled forward and backward are different from those enabled for vessel visit transitions. The following table specifies exactly which transitions are enabled from each train visit phase.
